1. Definition of Shareware
--------------------------
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you
are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details --
some request registration while others require it, some specify a
maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
simple right to continue using the software to an updated program
with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and
the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of
comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad
ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. The
author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For
example, some authors require written permission before a commercial
disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether
it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your
needs easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the
overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate
money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay
for it.
2. Distribution Conditions for 'Mission Supernova, Part 1'
----------------------------------------------------------
'Mission Supernova, Part 1' (abbreviated to 'MSN1') is distributed
as "Shareware", not "Freeware" nor "Public Domain". All rights are
reserved. However, 'MSN1' may be freely distributed by commercial
vendors, user groups, BBS operators, or individuals, with the
following restrictions:
- 'MSN1' must be distributed in unmodified form in its entirety,
including all file names, program code, documentation, and any
related files. No other programs or files may be included. The
complete game consists of an archive file, an installation routine
and two (2) text files. A detailed file list is given below.
- 'MSN1' may not be included in combination with any other software
or hardware product as an enticement or for any other reason,
without special permission from Peter Weber (for address look at
top of file).
- No fee or payment may be charged or accepted for 'MSN1', other than
a small disk distribution fee (up to 10 US$ including shipping &
handling, or comparable amounts in other currencies).
- 'MSN1' may not be described in catalogs or promotional material as
"public domain" or "free" software.
- Any advertising and/or packaging must explain the shareware concept
and the obligations associated with continued use of shareware.
3. Suggested Catalog Descriptions
---------------------------------
Short:
'Mission Supernova': Great graphic-adventure. Needs HD, VGA, mouse.
Medium:
The 'Mission Supernova, Part 1' is a successful science-fiction
graphic-adventure using HD, VGA and mouse. SoundBlaster supported.
Easy-to-play, but not easy-to-solve!
Long:
Play the 'Mission Supernova, Part 1' and try to solve the problems
of Walter Bumble, ship's cook of the starship 'Supernova'. When he
wakes up one day, he realizes that he is the only person on board!
But what has happened? This graphic-adventure requires VGA, a mouse
and about 2 MB on HD. SoundBlaster cards are supported.
4. File list of 'MSN1'
----------------------
Here is a complete list of all files included in 'MSN1'. If you don't
find all of them in your directory, you can get a copy of the master
